Alaska 2004  --  Day 13

Day 13, Friday June 11 ~  Kennicott and the Root Glacier

In the morning we hiked beside the Root Glacier to various view points.  Along the way were many plants and flowers.  After lunch we met up with several guides from a local outfitter.  They fitted everyone with full crampons.  Then we walked up the same route to and onto the Root Glacier.  During the one and one-half hours on the glacier we explored its various features and became comfortable with our crampons.  Altogether we did some 10 to 11 miles this day.  After dinner the St. Elias Mountain Guides gave a slide show.
