Alaska 2004 -- Day 3
Day 3, Tuesday June 1 ~ Whittier and a Cruise
We drove north to Whittier. Enroute we had a couple of rest stops including one at Portage Lake. From Whittier we had a delightful cruise aboard the Emerald Sea. We went out Passage Canal and then up the Blackstone Bay to the foot of the Blackstone and Beloit glaciers. This is in the western portion of Prince William Sound. The sea was calm and the weather delightful. We had a buffet dinner aboard the ship. Afterwards we stopped again at Portage Lake. Unfortunately the visitor center had closed for the day and the trail to the Portage Glacier was closed because of avalanche danger. Nevertheless it was a splendiferous day.
