Philipsburg

One day we went into Philipsburg, the capitol of St. Maarten.   Downtown Philipsburg consists of two narrow streets that parallel the waterfront.    Much of the time this area is swarmed with the some 2,000,000 cruise ship passengers that arrive at the nearby dock each year.  As it was mid-afternoon and the ships depart at 5:00 we had the place to ourselves.

Later in the day we went to historic Fort Amsterdam which is on a narrow peninsula just west of town.

Adjacent to the Fort were nesting brown pelicans.

On the west side of the pennisula is the Divi Little Bay Beach Resort.  We went snorkeling here until it became too dark to see.

Then the moon arose over the lights of Philipsburg.
