September 15 - Faloria

Yesterday afternoon we went to the tourist info place to collect a town map, and info on buses and lifts/gondolas. Unfortunately, several of the semi-local buses to passes and hiking trail heads have stopped running for the season and we had to change many of our plans. The original plan was to do hike S13 into and around the massif to the east of Cortina. However, the bus to Passo Tre Croci and the start of the trail isn't running any more this season. Instead from very close to the bus station, just a couple of blocks from our hotel, we took a gondola to Rifugio Faloria at 2123m and did a loop hike from there starting on trail 213 and going east to a place where we could go cross country uphill to trail 223. 223 sort of parallels 213 but is somewhat higher up and we used 223 to return to the top of the gondola. There wasn't a lot of elevation gain and we had lots of wonderful views.
