September 10 - Alpe di Suisi

Today we did hike #32 from the Cicerone book "Shorter Walks in the Dolomites," a circumnavigation of a rolling high-altitude pasture plateau called the Alpe di Siusi , which is some hundreds of meters above the surrounding countryside. It culminates in a 2174m hummock called the Bullaccia (Italian) or the Puflatsch (German).

We woke to sunny skies, had a leisurely breakfast and then caught a bus for a 10 minute ride to the town of Siusi.  There we got on the Siusibahn, a gondola, which took us up to the small town of Compaccio, 1835m, which is the south end of the loop.  From the top of the Siusibahn we walked downhill about 10 minutes to the start of the Bullaccia/Puflatsch gondola which took us to the Berggasthof Puflatsch at 2119m.

From there we started our counter-clockwise walk which eventually got us back to the top of the Siusibahn after some 5 miles of walking.  On the plateau the temp was cool and pleasant, perhaps in the low 60s. Here in town, at an elevation of about 1050m, it approached 80.
