Jenni and Ralph Climb Mt. Katahdin via the Appalachian Trail (Hunt Trail)

We got up at 5:00, had breakfast at the Appalachian Trail Cafe in Millinocket at 5:30 and then drove to Baxter State Park.  We started hiking from the Katahdin Stream Campground at an elevation of 1079 ft. at 7:03am. We soon crossed Katahdin Stream and passed the Katahdin Falls.  About 10:00 we reached tree line and the real climbing over the Hunt Spur began.  The next 0.8 miles of scrambling took us 1 3/4 hours.

As we climbed higher the views got better

We finally reached the "Gateway" and came onto the Tableland
from which one can see the summit
